Sky One for Tiscali TV subscribers?

(29-05-07) - BSkyB is in talks with Tiscali over offering the basic Sky channels through Tiscali TV, according to reports.

According to The Times, a deal between the two companies could be announced in a matter of weeks. A Sky spokesman declined to comment.

If the rumours are true, the proposed deal would see Tiscali TV (formerly HomeChoice) customers receiving Sky One, Sky News and Sky Sports News: in fact, all the channels that Virgin Media customers are now losing out on because of Virgin’s bitter ongoing wrangle with Sky.

Experts say a deal with Sky would broaden Tiscali’s customer base, especially since 47,000 Virgin Media customers were lost over the Sky dispute. Tiscali is also currently interested in acquiring the broadband and voice services of Pipex.

Chris Eagle, Commercial Manager at www.digitalchoices.co.uk, commented: “Tiscali is on the verge of some major changes at the moment, and looks set to increase its customer base substantially if these deals go through. The Sky deal would enable Tiscali TV to be taken seriously in a crowded digital TV market.”

In other news, Tiscali is currently trying to fix a problem that has left some of its broadband subscribers unable to send emails for over a week. The company has admitted that it is experiencing delays in the delivery of outbound emails, and has promised to keep its customers updated.
