Sky Player is now part of Sky Go, the flexible access service launched by Sky in June 2011.

Bringing together Sky Player and Sky Mobile TV, the provider’s mobile TV service, Sky Go lets you watch live and on-demand TV on the move, using your PC, laptop, Mac, iPad, iPhone or iPod touch.

Sky Player was Sky on your computer as Sky's response to the BBC iPlayer. It has been combined with Sky Mobile TV and rebranded Sky Go and is now a service that allows Sky customers watch the channels they subscribe to wherever they are, whenever they want, via a range of devices.

What is Sky Go?

While Sky Player allowed you to watch live TV on your computer, Sky Go offers you the opportunity to do the same via laptops, Macs, PCs, Xbox 360 consoles and subscription-free TV service FetchTV. Apple’s iPad, iPhone and iPod touch enables you to do the same via the Sky Go app, which is now available for free on the App Store. Sky plans to make the service available to Android phones and other tablets later this year.

As with the Sky Player, Sky Go subscribers using a laptop, Mac or PC can view over 30 live channels, including Sky Sports and Sky Movies, depending on their subscription.

Those using an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch can, again subscription permitting, watch all five Sky Sports channels, ESPN and Sky News, with more channels to be added going forward.

Sky Go also gives users access to selected on-demand TV and movies.

Is Sky Go for me?

All internet TV services require a relatively fast, reliable connection. To watch Sky Go. You’ll need at least a 2Mb broadband connection or a reliable 3G network, depending on what device you’re using.

If your broadband package has a set download allowance, we suggest you double check how much you can watch before indulging in a TV marathon or you could risk exceeding your limit and being charged for the extra data. If you have an unlimited broadband package, you should still be careful as a fair usage policy may apply.

Sky broadband is the only UK broadband provider to offer truly unlimited broadband without a fair usage policy or traffic management, with its Unlimited broadband package.

Can I get Sky Go?

As with Sky Player, Sky Go is available to Sky and non-Sky customers.

If you're a Sky customer you can watch programmes from channels in your TV package for free, although which channels you can access will depend on the device you’re using.

Selected on-demand TV is accessible via all platforms, while customers using Sky Go via a computer or laptop will be able to take advantage of an “extensive library” of on-demand programming.

You will soon be able to watch Sky TV programmes online through Sky Go even in you aren’t with Sky, as with the old Sky Player service, but now on the move too.

Sky Go Monthly Tickets are now available, which give non-Sky customers access to 32 live channel and hundreds of on-demand shows and movies without the need for a contract or a satellite dish, with prices ranging from £15-£49 per month.
