Sky launches Sky Go for Android

Sky Go is already available for iOS devices like the iPhone, where it has been a big success

Sky Go is an online TV service that lets Sky subscribers watch live television and on-demand content through a Wi-Fi or mobile broadband connection.

Initially, Android phone owners will be able to watch all the Sky Sports channels, ESPN, Sky News and 11 Sky Movies channels, provided these channels are included with their existing Sky subscription.

Over the next month, more channels will be made available, starting today with Sky Atlantic. By the end of February, users will also have access to Sky 1, Sky Living and Sky Arts 1.

Sky Go is already available on for desktop and laptop computers and iOS devices like the iPhone, where it has been a big success. According to Sky, the Premier League football matches between Spurs and Manchester City and Arsenal and Manchester United on Sunday 22 January attracted a total of 3.1 million live content views on the day. In December, 1.5 million people watched TV shows through the app.

To use Sky Go on Android phones, owners need to be subscribed to a Sky package, and to download the application from the Android Market. At present, the service can only be used on these handsets:

  • HTC Desire
  • HTC Desire S
  • HTC Desire HD
  • HTC Incredible S
  • HTC Sensation
  • Samsung Galaxy S
  • Samsung Galaxy S2
