With the widest choice of channels and an award-winning set-top, Sky’s satellite TV packages are a firm favourite with over 10 million homes. But is Sky TV right for you?

Sky (www.sky.com) supplies digital TV through a satellite dish attached to the outside of your home. It offers different set-top boxes, as well as different package subscriptions, letting you choose between standard definition Sky or Sky HD.

Sky TV is a firm favourite with over 10m households

If you don’t have a HD ready TV, then signing up for a standard package with a basic Sky set-top box will be the most cost-effective option for your household. However, if you do have a high-definition (HD) TV, you can subscribe to Sky+ HD. This provides you with a digital TV recorder with a built-in hard drive memory for recording, rewinding and pausing “live” television. You can also watch over 50 high-definition channels with a sharper, clearer picture.

To join Sky call 0844 241 1407, or call 08442 414 141 if you are an existing customer looking to upgrade your package.

Why should I get Sky TV?

Sky TV comes in two different options; Sky Entertainment and Sky Extra.

Sky Entertainment costs £20 a month and gives you all your favourites, including Sky Atlantic, Sky 1, Sky Living MTV and the Comedy Channel - along with a host of other channels.

Sky Extra gives you all that, plus an extra 51 channels to make sure you've got something for all the family. This pack costs £25 a month.

You can then add on Sky’s premium Sky Sports and Sky Movies packs for extra.

As well as offering the largest number of standard channels, Sky also has the most high-definition channels, available to all subscribers with Sky+ who take the Sky HD pack.

What do I need for digital Sky TV?

Because Sky is a satellite TV provider, its service is available to over 98% of the country. This means that if you live in a rural area that isn’t yet covered by Freeview, you can still watch the programmes you want.

When you sign-up to Sky, an engineer will visit your home to install your Sky dish and connect your TV to your set-top box.

It’s important to note that listed properties and flats will need planning permission before Sky can be installed, and this may not always be possible.

How much does it cost?

The costs vary depending on which pack you want and whether or not you want to add on the Sky Movies or Sky Sports on top.

Compare Sky TV packages with others digital TV providers before signing up, to make sure you’re getting the best deal for your household.
