Sky has already shown some events in 3D, including a Keane gig; however the full 3D channel will go live later this year.
Brian Lenz, director of product development at Sky, said: “This is a great example of Sky and TV manufacturers taking the initiative to ensure there is no confusion over formats. By working together with set manufactures, we want to provide a hassle free way for consumers enjoy 3D TV.”
The broadcasting giant aims to show a range of content in 3D, including top-level sporting events, primetime dramas and the latest movies.
To be able to receive the Sky 3D channel, both new and existing customers will have to sign-up for the Sky+HD service. The Sky+HD set-top box is already equipped to broadcast in 3D, and subscribers will soon be able to watch the latest movie releases in 3D.
