Virgin Media customers will be able to watch the Discovery Channel in high-definition from spring.
Bear Grylls: Born Survivor, NASA’s Greatest Missions and Extreme Engineering will all be available in sparking high-definition (HD) on the Discovery Channel on Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com) this spring.
This is the second new HD channel to come to Virgin Media this month, after the cable communications and entertainment company said it would soon be hosting Eurosport HD too.
Virgin Media offers high-definition BBC channels and Channel 4 to all its customers. Meanwhile, those on its XL TV package also get sports channel ESPN, SF, MTV networks, National Geographic and Living in HD.
Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said: “We’re adding several more HD channels in the coming months, which we will make available to our XL TV customers for no extra monthly fee.”
Dee Forbes, managing director of Discovery Networks UK, said: “Discovery has been at the forefront of HD development across the globe and now has a collection of over 1,500 hours of HD content.”
The Discovery HD channel is already available on Sky (www.sky.co.uk).
