Dear Jon, I want to watch Eurosport for the women’s tennis. Which providers offer this channel and how much does it cost? At the moment I have Freesat but can’t watch the Eurosport channel. Please help, I’m 80 years old and I’m not good at anything too technical.
Aileen Ireland, via email on Monday 1 February, 2010
Hello Aileen, thanks for your email about watching Eurosport (www.eurosport.com). The Eurosport channel shows a variety of sports including football, tennis, alpine skiing, snooker and athletics. These events aren’t generally shown on sports channels such as Sky Sports and ESPN.
Unfortunately Freesat, the subscription-free satellite TV service does not offer Eurosport at the moment. A number of digital TV providers in the UK do offer it however. Below are your options…

Customers with a cable TV service from Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com) can watch both Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, providing they have the right package, at no extra cost.
The channels are available to Size L and Size XL customers, and customers who subscribe to the Size M+ package, however it is important to note that Virgin Media’s cable TV service is only available to households that switch their landline to Virgin too. To find out whether you live in an area that can receive cable TV, do a postcode search using our online digital TV calculator.
Please see the packages below for more details about what Virgin Media has to offer, and click through to Virgin’s website for current pricing:
| Company | Package Name | Channels | Broadband | Home Phone |

If you don’t want to switch to Virgin Media’s cable service, Sky (www.sky.co.uk) also offers the British Eurosport channel in its News and Events “pack”, which is £18 a month.
Sky is the UK’s largest satellite TV provider, offering the widest selection of channels. Sky splits its channels into “packs” depending on the genre of programme. Customers can choose from six packs: Variety, Knowledge, Style and Culture, News and Events, Children’s and Music.
Please see the packages below for more details about what’s on offer from Sky, and click through to Sky’s website for current prices and installation costs:

TalkTalk TV ( www.talktalk.co.uk/tv ), the recently rebranded Tiscali TV, is the internet TV service (IPTV) from home phone, broadband and television provider TalkTalk. It also offers the Eurosport channel, though TalkTalk TV is only available to existing Tiscali phone and broadband customers who wish to upgrade their service, and to new customers signing up with TalkTalk (existing TalkTalk customers are unable to upgrade their account to include the TV service).
It doesn’t cost anything extra for the channel and monthly subscriptions start from £14.98 a month, plus monthly line rental of £11.49.
You can also sign-up to watch both British Eurosport channels (1 and 2) online. Simply visit www.eurosport.com and register, choosing which type of subscription you’d like, and you can watch all the sporting action from the ski slopes, ice rinks and football pitches.
A monthly subscription costs £3.99, or you can sign-up for a whole year for the reduced price of £34.99, saving you over £1 a month. It is important to remember though, as with any online streaming service such as the Sky Player or the BBC iPlayer, you will need a connection speed of at least 2Mb. Use our online speed checker if you are uncertain of what speeds you are getting.
I hope this information helps Aileen, and you find a package that’s both affordable and offers Eurosport, so you can watch all your favourite sports.
