How do I retune my Freeview box?
Below are some basic steps on retuning your Freeview box or TV:
- Switch on your Freeview TV or digibox
- Press the “menu” button on your remote control
- Select the “set-up” option - this is sometimes called “installation,” “factory reset” or “default settings”
- Press “ok.” If your digibox asks if you are sure you want to delete the existing channels, select “yes”
- If your digibox is asking for a PIN number or code, try 0000 or 1234
- Your digibox will scan for new channels. This may take up to 10 minutes, and your digibox may turn itself or restart once it has finished scanning for channels
- After retuning you may have to reset your “favourites” list.
The above steps are only a basic guide. As all makes and models are different, please refer to your users’ manual if you are unsure. Alternatively, visit the Freeview site for online help on retuning your particular digibox.
Why should I retune my Freeview box?
Freeview set-top boxes and TVs will need to be retuned from time to time, to pick up all the available Freeview channels.
What happens after I retune my Freeview box?
Once you’ve retuned your Freeview box, you may find the following changes to your digital TV service:
- If you didn’t already receive it, you’ll be able to watch Channel 5, along with BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, and Channel 4.
- Around 460,000 homes will no longer be able be able to receive ITV3 and ITV4 after retuning. Unfortunately, at present, there is nothing you do about this.
- The new Quest channel will broadcast on channel 38. It will be available to the majority of Freeview homes.
- Some BBC Radio stations will be affected. If you live in the Scottish Borders, the West Country and parts of Wales you will lose these services until you retune your Freeview equipment.
- The Community Channel will no longer be available on Freeview in areas that have already gone through switchover.
- After retuning, you may need to reset your personal settings such as subtitles, recordings or your “favourites.” Refer to your instruction manual for how to do this.
- After retuning, a small number of channels will have changed positions on the EPG.

I hope the step-by-step plan helps you retune your Freeview box James. Good luck!
