Sky supplies digital TV through a satellite dish attached to the outside of your home. It offers different levels of hardware as well as different package subscriptions, so you can choose from normal Sky TV or Sky+HD.
Sky TV is the standard digital package, and Sky+HD provides you with a digital TV recorder with a built-in hard drive memory for recording, rewinding and pausing “live” television. You can also watch a selection of high-definition channels with a sharper, clearer picture.
Sky’s channels are grouped in “packs”, and the cost of the package depends on the number of packs you choose. It costs £18 a month for one pack, going up by £1 for each additional pack you add. You can then add on Sky’s premium sports and film packs for additional costs.
To join Sky call 08442 410582, or call 08442 414 141 if you are an existing customer.
Sky lets you can build your own tailor-made digital TV package from a choice of six "packs" - Children’s, Knowledge, Music, Variety, Style & Culture, and News. So you can sign-up for what you want without having to pay for what you don’t want, selecting your own choice of channels, including Sky One, Living, National Geographic and the Disney Channel.
As well as offering the largest number of standard channels, Sky also has the most high-definition channels, available at no extra cost to subscribers taking the HD pack for £10 a month.
You can also include the premium Sport and Movie packs at an additional cost.
Because Sky uses satellite technology, 98% of the country can receive Sky. This means that if you live in a rural area that isn’t yet covered by Freeview, you can still watch the programmess you want.
When you sign-up to Sky, an engineer will visit your home to install your Sky dish and connect your TV to your new Sky+HD Box.
It’s important to note that listed properties will need planning permission before Sky can be installed, and this may not always be possible.
The costs vary depending on how many packs you want and whether or not you want to add on the Movie or Sport packs. Another factor that affects costs is the hardware you go for, as Sky+HD is more expensive than standard Sky TV.
