Sky customers can now look forward to the new Sky 3D channel, which will be available on all ‘3D ready’ TVs.

Sky (www.sky.co.uk) has said that its forthcoming Sky 3D channel - the first 3D TV channel in Europe - will be compatible with all 3D TV sets being introduced by manufacturers.

Major digital TV manufacturers, such as Sony and Samsung, are now launching ‘3D ready’ TV sets, which satellite TV provider Sky says will all be able to receive its new channel, as long as connected to a Sky+HD set-top box.

Enjoy the likes of 3D films Avatar and Alice in Wonderland at home...

Brian Lenz, Sky’s director of product design and development, said: “Whether active or passive, Sky 3D will be compatible with all 3D TVs sold by the leading TV manufacturers, so consumers will be able to enjoy 3D free from any confusion over formats or compatibility.”

Sky 3D will work with both “active” and “passive” 3D formats, meaning the channel will be available on any manufacturer’s 3D-enabled TV set.

Sky 3D will launch next month in hundreds of in pubs and clubs around the UK, and then be made available to Sky+HD homes later in the year.

Jon Ingram, operations director at Digitalchoices.co.uk, said: “Because all Sky+HD boxes are already 3D ready, if you’re a Sky+HD subscriber all you’ll need to do is buy a new 3D TV set and a pair of 3D glasses. These will either come with the set or will have to be bought separately.”

“You’ll then be able to enjoy the likes of 3D films Avatar and Alice in Wonderland, as well as 3D sports and programmes, in the comfort of your own home,” added Ingram.
