You can watch Arsenal v Manchester United in glorious 3D this Sunday, ahead of Sky’s April launch of a new 3D TV channel for its customers.
Satellite TV provider Sky (www.sky.co.uk) will launch Europe’s first dedicated 3D TV service in April. As a preview for footy fans, Sky will broadcast the Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester United this Sunday (January 31) in 3D.
The clash of the Premier League titans will be shown on “3D ready” TVs in pubs in nine pubs in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Dublin and Edinburgh.
Gerry O’Sullivan, director of strategic product development at Sky, said: “2010 is the year for 3D TV. People have already embraced 3D cinema and because Sky’s 3D service uses the same kind of technology, we’re confident there will be demand for sports, films, concerts and drama in 3D.”
If you want to get your hands on a TV specially adapted to show 3D content, several were showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month, though they have yet to reach the consumer market in the UK.
Sky has pledged to offer the dedicated 3D channel to its Sky+HD customers at no extra cost as soon as the sets become more readily available.
There are now over 2 million homes in the UK with Sky+HD, enjoying Sky TV in high-definition.
