Can I watch Virgin TV in more than one room?

Hi Becky, the good news is that it is possible to get Virgin Media’s cable TV service in different rooms in your house. If you’re a Virgin TV (www.virginmedia.com) subscriber and you want to watch TV in say your bedroom or the kitchen, but your set-top box has been installed in the living room, you can buy additional set-top boxes from Virgin.

Below is all the information you need, including costs and details on set-top boxes, to start watching Virgin Media cable TV all around your house…

Virgin Media multiroom TV for existing customers

If you already have a subscription to a Virgin Media TV, you can buy additional set-top boxes so you can watch the service in different rooms around the house. Whether you get a second, third or fourth set-top box, each box will have access to exactly the same channels as your first box, depending on the package you have subscribed to. When it comes to choosing a set-top box, there are a few options available:

1. Get a V+HD Box as your second box - If your first set-top box is a standard V Box, you can add the high-definition digital TV recorder, V+HD Box, as your second box, for £84 - this includes a £49 activation fee for the service and the standard £35 installation charge.
2. Get a V HD Box as your second box - If your first set-top box is a standard V Box, you can add the high-definition V HD Box for £84 - this includes a £49 activation fee for the service and the standard £35 installation charge. This box doesn’t have the recording function.
3. Upgrade to V+HD in all rooms - If your first set-top box is a standard V Box and you want to upgrade to the V+HD service, it will cost you £75 to activate the box and £35 to install it. Each additional V+HD Box after that will cost you £75 to activate.

The £35 installation charge is irrespective of how many boxes you have installed, so if you think you may want to watch Virgin Media TV in more rooms in the house in the future, you may be able to save money by getting two or more set-top boxes installed at the same time.

Contact Virgin Media on 0845 454 1111 to arrange a date for an engineer to come round and install the boxes, and don’t forget to ask if there are any free installation offers on - you may be able to save some money when getting your second or third set-top box set-up.

To get the multiroom function, each additional set-top box will also cost you £5.50 extra a month on top of your normal monthly subscription, no matter which package you have. So, if you have the Size XL package in your living room and two set-top boxes elsewhere in the house, your TV subscription will cost you £34 a month, plus £11.99 for a Virgin Media cable phone line.

Virgin Media multiroom TV for new customers

If you haven’t already got Virgin’s cable TV service but are thinking of subscribing, you should check first to see whether it is available in your area. Use the postcode checker on Digitalchoices.co.uk to find out if you can receive Virgin Media and compare TV deals and packages.

Getting Virgin’s TV service in different rooms around the house is really straightforward if you’re a new Virgin Media customer. You can choose to have one, two, three or even four boxes installed, all for the flat fee of £35 - the installation charge is irrespective of how many boxes you have installed.

You have the choice of three different types of set-top box when signing up:

1. V Box - The standard set-top box on offer from Virgin is free.
2. V+HD Box - The HD ready digital TV recorder from Virgin, costs £49.
3. V HD Box - The HD ready standard set-top box from Virgin, costs £49.

If you want two or more V+HD boxes, Virgin Media charges £35 for installation, £49 to activate the first box and then £75 to activate each additional box. So to get Virgin’s high-definition TV service installed in your living room, kitchen and bedroom will cost you £234. You will also have to pay an extra £5.50 a month for each additional set-top box, on top of your monthly TV subscription, to get the multiroom functionality.

What can I watch on Virgin TV?

Virgin Media’s TV service comes with a wide selection of channels and extra features, meaning there really is something for all the family to watch.

Cable TV customers with Virgin benefit from an extensive range of on-demand content, with over 4,600 hours of programmes, sports and films to enjoy at any time. These are via the Catch Up TV, TV Choice, and Movies or Music on-demand menus.

Virgin Media customers can watch programmes on the BBC iPlayer, ITV Player and 4OD through their TV’s, and in super sharp HD (where available) at no extra charge no matter what size TV package they opt for.

TV Choice offers a selection of shows on-demand from HBO, Disney, Warner TV, Discovery, National Geographic and many more, including entire series of drama, comedies and documentaries. This is included at no extra cost in the Virgin XL TV package, or can be taken on a month-by-month basis for just £7 on M+ or L TV packages.
