Virgin Media installs one TiVo every minute

The number of Virgin Media customers taking up TiVo has quadrupled in the past three months, while an exclusive Spotify app is on the way.

Over 220,000 households now have access to Virgin Media ‘s TiVo, with the cable and internet TV package gaining more new customers than BT Vision over the past year. In fact, Virgin Media engineers have been installing TiVo at a rate of one every minute.

The launch of Spotify on Virgin Media marks a significant milestone

Just three months after TiVo was made available to everyone, a Virgin Media survey has shown customers are twice as likely to recommend the digital TV provider to a friend than before, while half say they are watching better quality programmes as a result of having TiVo.

Virgin Media has also unveiled an exclusive Spotify app, which enables Spotify Premium subscribers with TiVo to enjoy music in the living room through their home cinema sound system. The app will give users access to millions of tracks through their internet-connected set-top box.

Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said: “The launch of Spotify on Virgin Media marks a significant milestone for digital entertainment and the way it is enjoyed by consumers.

“Great digital services are no longer just about fast broadband or the latest TV technology, but increasingly about how people use their services to power and excite their daily lives. Bringing together Virgin Media services with brilliant entertainment such as Spotify is a core part of our ongoing strategy.”

While most households taking a TiVo box were already subscribing to Virgin’s digital TV service, around one in three TiVo customers are completely new to Virgin Media.
