Freeview has launched an updated HDTV guide app for the iPad, iPhone and Android devices in time for the digital switchover.

With exactly one year remaining until the final analogue TV signal is switched off, marking the completion of the switchover to digital television, Freeview has released an all-singing, all-dancing update of its HD TV guide app.

Freeview aims to offer the best subscription-free TV service possible

A year after its initial launch on iPhone, the UK’s free TV service has finally created iPad and Android versions of the high-definition (HD) television guide app, and given the iPhone version a scrub up, all of which will be free to download from iTunes or Android Market.

The upgraded version includes:

  • Planning in advance: A complete timeline grid view of the TV guide, allowing you to plan your viewing in advance
  • Reminder service: Flag shows on the calendar and you’ll never miss your favourite TV programmes again
  • Top picks: Highlights the shows to look out for
  • Favourites: Users can save their favourite shows, which allows the software to learn your taste and make future recommendations
  • View offline: Even without a signal the app will download content, letting you browse offline
  • Trending feature: Allows users to see the most talked about TV shows on Twitter
  • Social TV: Share your top TV picks with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via email through the app

Adrian Mack, Freeview’s new media manager, said: “Freeview aims to offer the best subscription-free TV service possible and the upgrade of our Freeview HD TV guide app underlines this.”

The app had already been downloaded over 150,000 times at the time of writing.
