Virgin Media gives customers three new channels for Christmas

Subscribers to the cable television service get three new channels for the festive season.

There are only six sleeps to go until Christmas Day, but Virgin Media couldn’t wait any longer to unwrap the presents it has got for its customers.

Subscribers to the cable television service have been given three new channels just in time for the festivities - CBS Action, NDTV and Sony Entertainment Television.

As well as the new channels, those who subscribe to the provider’s on-demand and interactive TV platform TiVo will soon have access to an enhanced version of the BBC’s “red button” services.

CBS Action describes itself as “the UK’s only dedicated action channel”. It will be showing the likes of CIA drama The Agency on channel 192. Its Western Season, which celebrates the best of cowboys on film, begins in January.

NDTV (originally named New Delhi Television) is India’s most watched English news channel. NDTV 24x7 will be available to Virgin Media customers on channel 621, showing Indian news from around the world.

Sony Entertainment Television is an entertainment channel that will air on channel 193, showing TV series like the con artist capers of Hustle and, next year, historical fiction series The Tudors in its entirety, as well as movies like Spider-Man 3 over the festive season.

Virgin Media has now added 13 new channels to its television service this year, including eight high-definition (HD) channels.

The provider’s deal with the BBC means that, from next year, TiVo subscribers will be able to access “next-generation BBC TV services”, including the Beeb’s interactive coverage of Wimbledon, Formula 1, Euro 2012 and the Olympics.
