The new service, was first revealed in May, and will grant Sky customers who have an Xbox access to live television, as well as movies and on-demand content.
At May’s launch, Stephen Nuttal, director of Sky’s commercial group, said: “Now Xbox owners can enjoy a wide range of TV through their console and can pick and choose the packages that are right for them.”
The SkyPlayer offers a range of live pay TV channels - including Sky Sports - and an on-demand library of thousands of programmes, spanning entertainment, films, documentaries, kids, culture, news and sport.
Neil Thompson, head of Xbox UK and Ireland, added: “We are now one step closer to our goal of offering Xbox owners the best entertainment experiences out there, whether it’s movies, music, games, interactive experiences or high quality TV.”
The SkyPlayer will be available to Xbox Live Gold members, and existing Sky TV customers with subscriptions to certain movie or sports packages, such as Sky Movies and ESPN, will be able to also access premium content on their games consoles.
Jon Ingram, operations director at Digitalchoices.co.uk, said: “This deal between Sky and Xbox 360 is a first of its kind, and will offer users the chance to make more of their console, using it not just for video games but also to watch TV, both live shows and catch-up shows.”
