Virgin Media strikes Disney mobile content deal

Virgin Media customers will soon be able to watch Disney content on their mobiles as well as their TVs and computers.

The “three-screen deal” between Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com), and Disney will allow customers to watch Disney’s content on their TV, computer or mobile phone.

The new deal means Virgin Media will offer over 300 hours of kids’ entertainment on-demand from a range of different channels, including popular shows Hannah Montana and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, as well as feature-length films High School Musical and Camp Rock.

The TV and on-demand content (on TV) will be available in the next couple of weeks, while online content will be launched in 2010, and mobile content after that, according to a Virgin Media spokesperson.

Virgin Media’s executive director of content acquisition, Katharine Burns, said: “With great premium content on-demand, we think kids and families alike are going to love the freedom this Disney deal will bring.”

As well as making a wide range of Disney shows available online and via mobiles, Virgin Media is also giving customers the opportunity to watch the recently launched Disney XD channel which features on-demand Disney content in both standard and high-definition (HD).

Boel Ferguson, of Disney Channels UK and Ireland, said: “Disney XD was developed as a multi-platform entertainment brand with a multitude of content, designed to be viewed at home or on the move.”

In addition to the new Disney XD channel, the deal will boost the amount of on-demand content from the two existing channels; Playhouse Disney and the Disney Channel.
