Android users will have access to Sky’s online TV service from 22 February, says tech news site.
Are you a Sky customer with an Android-powered mobile phone? Frustrated that you can’t use Sky Go like your iPhone and iPad-sporting peers? Then next week could be a good week for you.
That’s because, according to TechRadar, Sky Go will be available for devices that use Google’s mobile operating system from Wednesday 22 February.
The technology news website reports that the app for Sky’s online television service may even be available via Android Market before then, but the 22nd is when it will be “officially released”.
Last month, Holly Knill, head of Sky Go, revealed that Sky Go would soon be available on a “selection of Android smartphones,” but did not name a specific date, saying only that it would be rolled out “over the next month”.
“We fully appreciate how much Android users have been looking forward to the launch of Sky Go, and we’ve done everything we can to make sure that our bespoke design for Android handsets is worth waiting for,” she said.
Knill said at the time that Sky Go for Android devices would only be available for HTC and Samsung Galaxy handsets to start with.
According to TechRadar, the app will be compatible will the following Android phones initially, which Sky believes to be “the most popular”:
Sky has not confirmed the official release date of the Sky Go Android app at the time of writing.
