Sky Go is go on Android devices

App giving Android smartphone users access to Sky’s online television service now available.

Sky customers with Android smartphones can now access Sky’s online television service Sky Go.

A Sky Go app for certain mobile phones powered by Google’s mobile operating system is available from the Android Market online software store from today.

The launch comes two days earlier than expected, after tech news website TechRadar reported last week that the app would be available from this Wednesday.

The Sky Go Android app is currently available for what Sky describes as “the most popular handsets,” such as the HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2.

The app is free and gives Sky customers live access to the Sky Sports channels, the Sky Movies channels, ESPN and Sky News - depending on what they subscribe to - via their mobile at no extra cost.

Following the launch last month of Sky Atlantic as a Sky Go accessible channel, Sky 1, Sky Living and Sky Arts 1 are now also available for Sky customers to watch on the move, whether they use an Android or Apple device.

Sky Sports F1, the satellite TV provider’s new dedicated Formula One channel, will be available via Sky Go on both platforms from next month, with Sky Movies on-demand coming to Android devices later in the year.

Holly Knill, head of Sky Go, said: “We’re extremely happy to announce the roll-out of Sky Go on selected Android handsets today and the arrival of the Sky Entertainment channels to mobile devices.

“We are always working to ensure that Sky customers have more ways to watch content they love, whether it’s the big Premier League game, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Modern Family or Ruth Jones’ Stella, and this is exactly what this enhanced version of Sky Go delivers.”
