Want to give your Freeview a boost with added extras and on-demand programmes? Samsung’s range of internet-connected TVs may be just the ticket with the new Woomi app.
Woomi, a new application that gives viewers a “unique TV experience”, has been launched across all Samsung internet-connected television sets, letting you pick and choose the on-demand content you want to watch.
The app has been developed by Miniweb, a distribution company that helps TV producers get their content on to as many screens as possible, by hosting it in “The Cloud”.
This essentially means that content is available for you to watch from anywhere in the world on any device that supports the Woomi app.
Jerome de Vitry, chief executive at Miniweb, said: “We encourage publishers and device manufacturers to embrace connected TV. This is the future of TV and that is why we have created a unique marketplace for them. We are not streaming video or acquiring rights, but are acting as an agent or retailer.”
Woomi has collaboration agreements with a number of niche channels and content producers, including a collection of “how to” videos on Videojug and urban latino channel Q3030.
The app is now available on all Samsung “smart” internet-connected TVs via the Internet@TV portal.
Samsung’s internet-connected TVs are aimed at homes with Freeview or Freesat homes, so viewers can get the on-demand content available from TV services like Virgin Media or Sky, without the monthly subscription.
Jon Ingram, operations director at Digitalchoices.co.uk, said: “While the new Woomi app has the potential to do very well with Freeview and Freesat viewers, its success will rely heavily on the programmes it carries.”
