Peter Andre wins TV Personality of the Year award

The Only Way is Essex also honoured at the TRIC Awards 2012 in London.
The winners of this year's Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards have been revealed, and it’s exciting news for Peter Andre fans.
The reality TV star, and former pop sensation, picked up the award for satellite / digital TV personality of the year, in a star-studded ceremony held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
Andre, clearly delighted to have won, tweeted: “So incredibly happy. My first industry award in 15 years. Thank you TRiC awards :))).” [sic]
And there was more good news for the nation’s digital and satellite TV shows. ITV2’s not-quite reality show, The Only Way is Essex nabbed an award for best satellite / digital programme and Sky Sports’ Jeff Stelling received the sports presenter award.
One of the most hotly-contested awards was the TV reality programme category, but Strictly Come Dancing tangoed its way to a fine win. And in the eternal battle of the soaps, EastEnders beat Coronation Street to a best TV soap of the year award.
Other notable winners included ITV’s Downton Abbey for HD drama programme of the year, the BBC’s The Choir: Military Wives for best TV art / documentary programme and Have I Got News For You for best TV entertainment programme.
A special award was given posthumously to Coronation Street actress Betty Driver, who passed away last year having played the part of Betty Williams for more than 40 years.
