Gaming, not films or TV will encourage people to buy 3D TVs, says expert.

People will adopt 3D home entertainment systems in order to play 3D games, rather than to watch 3D TV programmes and movies, according to a Microsoft expert.

People may jump straight to upgrading to 3D TVs...

People may go straight from old-style TVs to 3D systems – bypassing HD altogether, the expert also told gaming website Gamasutra.

Habib Zargarpour, creative director at Microsoft, said: “People aren’t going to buy those TVs unless there’s stuff to do with it.”

He pointed out that making games in 3D is a much easier undertaking than making movies in 3D.

Zargapour has worked in special effects and 3D for over 15 years and has twice been nominated for an Oscar.

3D TVs are already being sold in the UK by John Lewis and will set you back in the region of £1,800-plus.
