Fans of Bollywood television and films are in for a treat after BT Vision announces plans to launch its new video-on-demand service, Bolly & Beyond.
The new channel will feature films and TV programmes from South Asia and will launch this September on BT’s television service, BT Vision (www.btvision.bt.com).
Bolly & Beyond will give customers access to a range of on-demand Bollywood movies, music and television programmes for £6.85 a month.
BT Vision chief executive Marc Watson said: “Bollywood fans can now choose from an extensive library of TV and film, and watch what they want, when they want it.”
The channel will be managed and marketed by MoMedia, a digital distribution company, and Shemaroo Entertainment, an Indian-based entertainment company.
Shemaroo Entertainment director Jai Maroo said: “We are excited to be providing a unique entertainment package to the south Asian communities residing in the UK. As a major content company we strive to innovate in the digital space.”
Both companies have signed a five-year deal with BT, and Bolly & Beyond will be the exclusive South Asian service on BT Vision for during the contract.
The on-demand content broadcast on Bolly & Beyond will rival the Asian channels offered by satellite TV giant Sky, which include a package of channels from its Asian brand Star. Virgin Media also airs the Star channels, as well as Zee TV.
