Common interface

Television or set-top box which allows connection to another device using the same open standard.

Communal system

Where the signal is distributed through a communal building such as a block of flats, sharing the same aerial.

Conditional access

A way of blocking access to programmes so that they can only be viewed by entering the correct code. Used in paid-for on-demand services to avoid accidental purchases or as a parental control.

Coverage

Areas that can receive digital terrestrial TV, or a particular provider’s service.

CRT

Cathode Ray Tube. The standard type of large-bodied television set, not a flat panel design.
