“Free” digital TV from Virgin Media

Free-to-view digital TV is springing up everywhere, with providers wanting to take advantage of the millions of people who have yet to switch before their region’s analogue signal is switched off. Virgin Media’s offering is part of a bundle, in the style the of TalkTalk, Sky (www.Sky.com) and Orange “free” broadband - where you have to take another service to get something for free.

Visit www.VirginMedia.com for more information.

What is it?

When you sign up to any Virgin Media home phone package, they will give you their Size:M digital TV package as a free add-on. They will supply you with a Virgin Media branded set-top box and you’ll be able to access all the Freeview channels, as well as a few extras like Virgin Central that you wouldn’t get with standard Freeview.

Why should I get it?

If you want a Virgin Media home phone, then you get this for free any way, saving you buying a set-top box and giving you a little more than Freeview. Virgin Media phone lines use cable technology so you don’t have to pay an additional fee for line rental to BT. However, they don’t have the most competitive call costs, so you could end up with quite high phone bills.

What do I need?

When you sign up a Virgin Media engineer will visit your home and install your hardware, setting up your home phone line and digital TV set-top box at the same time. So there’s nothing to do except make sure you’re in when the engineer arrives, then sit back and relax, watching your shiny, new digital TV.

How much does it cost?

Virgin Media phones start from £11 a month, and installation costs £25 no matter how many services you have installed.
