Sky HD customers will get a high-definition simulcast of E4 at no extra cost, available from today.
E4 HD - a high-definition version of the popular channel from Channel 4 - will be available to satellite TV customers with Sky HD from today, December 14.
The channel will carry high-definition (HD) versions of programmes including Peep Show, Misfits and Hollyoaks.
Following the launch of Channel 4 HD on both Sky and Virgin Media, E4 HD will be added to the Sky HD today, bringing the total number of high-definition channels available through the subscription TV service up to 36.
Sarah Rose, head of channel development at Channel 4, said: “The growing appetite for HD across the UK is clear to see. We were quick to respond to this demand in launching Channel 4 HD, and with the launch of E4 HD we look forward to delivering our viewers even more of the shows they love in stunning high definition.”
Channel 4 HD is expected to launch on Freeview next year after the high-definition service has been rolled out. However, it is unknown whether E4 HD will also be available on Freeview.
Jon Ingram, operations director at Digitalchoices.co.uk, said: “The demand for high-definition is on the rise, and as more and more channels become available, households are looking to switch to a service that’s going to offer them HD at an affordable price.”
“Until the roll-out of Freeview HD next year, consumers wanting a package with HD channels should consider a subscription to a digital TV provider such as Sky or Virgin Media,” he added.
