BT Vision (www.btvision.bt.com) is the television service provided by telecoms giant BT. It is similar to Sky’s (www.sky.com) Sky+ service, but instead of just pausing and recording live TV, BT Vision allows customers to watch a wide variety of films and programmes on-demand.

BT Vision’s TV channels are whatever you want them to be. The Vision box connects to your current TV aerial to receive all the free-to-view digital TV channels, and you can also pay to receive programmes from other channels as and when you want them.

Choosing BT Vision TV channels

You don’t have to pay a monthly subscription for your BT Vision. You can just buy the BT Vision+ box for £90 and receive the Freeview channels, then pay extra for anything else you might watch.

Alternativley, you can choose to subscribe to BT’s “Value Packs”, and this might save you money in the long run.

Paying a monthly subscription for BT Vision TV channels isn’t mandatory

These “Value Packs” aren’t made of TV channels as such, they are categories of on-demand features. You can search through an A-Z list of films, music videos or programmes, select one and watch it.

If you’re not currently subscribed to the category it falls under, the cost of your selection will appear on your next BT Vision bill as an extra. Prices start from 89p.

Subscribing to BT Vision’s TV channels

If you choose to subscribe, you can choose between three “Value Packs” (each at a corresponding monthly price). These are:

  • Bronze - This gives you the Freeview channels as well as two ‘on demand’ TV packages out of Music, Kids, Sport and Film.
  • Silver - Freeview channels, plus three of the above channel packages.
  • Gold - Freeview plus all four channel packages.

The BT Vision box is also high-definition (HD) enabled, so you can watch and record programmes in HD if your TV is compatible. The box uses your broadband connection to receive on-demand programming.

If you’re looking for a good deal on digital TV, there are plenty of options. As well as BT Vision, you should shop around and consider Freeview, Freesat, satellite TV and cable. Use the Digitalchoices.co.uk comparison service to find out more.
