I'm a SeeSaw customer - what happens now?

I've just read the news that SeeSaw is going to shut down. What’s going to happen to my account?

Mark Davis, via email, Thursday 2 June, 2011

Our digital TV expert says...

SeeSaw is an online TV service that brings together content from a wide range of broadcasters, including the BBC and Channel 4, as well as US programmes from MTV and NBC Universal.

We’re a small team but we hope we’ve made a big difference

But despite offering 3,500 hours of free programming and more than 1,000 hours of paid-for content, SeeSaw will close on 20 June as parent company Arqiva has failed to find a financial backer or buyer for the venture.

Arqiva handles TV and radio transmitters for most UK broadcasters and is a partner in the BBC-backed YouView service - due to go live early next year.

Can I still access my account?

You will still be able to log into your SeeSaw account until the site is taken down on 20 June. This means that you can watch all the free content as well as any active rentals - unless your viewing window has naturally expired, says SeeSaw.

What will happen to any payments I've made?

If you still had active rentals stored in your account on 31 May, these will be refunded - and SeeSaw will no longer accept any new payments after this date. Refunds will be processed from 1 June and SeeSaw expects the process to be complete by 20 June.

Even if you're due a full refund, you will still be able to watch any active rentals store in your account until the site comes down. But remember that once you click “play”, you will have 48 hours to watch before the viewing window expires.

SeeSaw also adds: “Rental programmes will be removed from the site on 31st May. To access programmes that you have already rented, you will need to sign in to your SeeSaw account and access them through ‘My Premium’.”

Unfortunately, if you have a rental voucher, this will also have expired on 31 May.

What about my NonStop subscription?

SeeSaw assures customers: “Anyone who has an active subscription to SeeSaw NonStop on 1st June will receive a full refund for their last payment.

“Your subscription will not be renewed on the next monthly payment date and no further charges will be made to your card.”

You will still be able to use this service until 20 June though.

SeeSaw says thanks

In a message posted on its blog on 27 May, the SeeSaw team said: “As it will soon be ‘goodbye’ from SeeSaw, we’d like to take this opportunity to say a big ‘thanks’ for all your support, custom and loyalty over the last 16 months.

“We’re a small team but we hope we’ve made a big difference and that you’ve had fun watching TV with us.”
